March 31, 2020 — The Sumaira Foundation for NMO is pleased to present the results of the NMO community’s outreach efforts to have March declared “NMO Awareness Month” across the nation.
Movement founder and TSF Chief Community Relations Officer, Gabriela Romanow, is thrilled with the response from the governors, and even more, from the NMO patient advocates who worked hard to have these proclamations declared state by state. Gabriela notes,
I thought that by asking people affected by NMO around the country to ask their governors to proclaim March as NMO awareness month, we would have a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the disease across the U.S.,while also creating an advocacy opportunity for anyone who wished to personally make a difference.
Though COVID-19 has taken over the world, many of us still must cope with the trials of having a rare autoimmune disorder, and we offer this collage as a reminder that yes, we are all in this together.
As of April 6, 2020, 35 of 50 states have declared March 2020 as NMO Awareness Month. Special thanks to TSF Ambassadors and the entire NMO community for going above and beyond, working with state governments to make this progress possible.
