On September 17, 2024, we welcomed clinicians, researchers, patients, caregivers and members of the industry from over 20 countries to TSF’s 7th Annual Gala and 1st international gala at the National Aquarium of Denmark in Copenhagen. Our fundraiser was held the night before the 40th Congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis kicked off where 8,500 delegates from all over the world convened for a education, networking, science, advocacy and more. Alongside bringing folks who are passionate and committed to rare neuroimmunological diseases from all over the world together to raise funds to support research, we were delighted to make a couple of announcements:
Prof. Mar Tintore and Prof. Bruno Stankoff announced that the organization will be a proud sponsor of the ECTRIMS-MEDEN fellowship, a joint fellowship between ECTRIMS and the MOGAD Eugene Devic European Network (MEDEN) that aims to foster collaboration and research among clinicians and scientists across Europe, focusing on NMOSD and MOGAD. Dr. Michael Levy and Sumaira presented TSF’s 2024 Global Rare Trailblazer Award to Prof. Josep Dalmau, Research Professor at the Catalan Institute for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA) in IDIBAPS/Hospital Clinic, University of Barcelona, Adjunct Professor of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania and guest researcher at the National Institute of Health (NIH). He is a trained neuro-onocologist with a research focus on autoimmune encephalitis and paraneoplastic neurological disorders. His recent work has revealed a new category of disorders mediated by antibodies to the neuronal cell surface and CNS synaptic proteins, including among others the NMDA, AMPA, and GABA receptors. It is events like this that has enabled the Foundation to support over $750,000 in NMOSD and MOGAD research, fellowships and journal publications since 2018.
